They're only pyjamas!!

Why is it that when you have to lay the law down to your kids, guilt takes over and the innate need to buy/spoil/pacify soon follows?
With the rather heavy dose of lectures last night, I woke up this morning feeling like Hitler.
After dropping the kids off at school I wandered round the shops a bit lost and plagued with the thought that my children would think I was mean and horrible and that they would be planning on leaving home, so I found some very nice pyjamas with pictures of their favourite characters on and planned a cosy night with a dvd and maybe an ice cream.
After listening to words of wisdom from my own mother,  I am slowly coming out of denial and realising, if only a tad, that spoiling them after warning them that from now on all privileges had to be earned, could maybe seen as a mixed message?
So in summary, it appears to be me that has the problem with my tough love technique, not the kids, and dvd night will have to be earned.
As for the pyjamas?......................They're only pyjamas!!
